Can you believe it’s practically summer??
Where did Spring go? I’ve been so busy that the changing seasons are passing me by.
Did you know Mental Health Awareness Month and Small Business Month were in May?
How fitting for these two movements to coincide, seeing how nerve-wracking, soul-crushing, and mentally draining being a small business owner can be.
And yet, it’s taboo to admit to anyone, “I’m not okay. I’m struggling.”
We get bombarded with social media posts encouraging and glorifying a hustle-grind lifestyle, but rarely do we see “real talk” from folks about how they struggle with Impostor Syndrome, worry about making the rent, childcare, elder care, no health insurance, mental fatigue, no sales, lost wages, anxiety, depression, and a host of so many other small business and mental health issues.
We need to normalize real life.
I’m not okay. I’m struggling.
Some days, I don’t want to get out of bed. On other days, I feel like everything I do for and in my business is worthless.
I’m tired and emotionally and mentally exhausted from being a solopreneur.
But I press on because I have faith, fortitude, and support. I’m not superhuman, and I need help—we all do.
The trick to being successful is accepting our limitations without internalizing self-criticism for seeking help.
→ Lean on your family and supportive friends.
→ Find and engage with a like-minded community.
→ Take mental health breaks from your business (and social media!).
More importantly, listen to your heart, practice self-acceptance, and don’t quit your daydream.
