know thyself

I am currently in limbo, but it’s not a bad feeling. It just… is. However, over the last few months, I’ve been in a season of re-evaluation: How I feel about my life, future projects, and where I expend energy.

I’m weary. I have reached my emotional and spiritual limits, which I knew of even as I recently launched new projects.
But it’s what you do for love.

The lyrics What you won’t do, do for love have echoed in my head for weeks because it’s true. Things you say you won’t do, you will find a way to do if you love it.

Of course, the song refers to a person, but still, you get the gist.

Especially as women (Sorry, fellas. Not sorry, really.), we often pour from empty cups.

No more, Cherie.

I’m long overdue to focus on my mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. I need to get myself whole again.

So, with this declaration, I’m saying, “Sayonara!” to a few things this summer, namely people-pleasing behaviors. Now, don’t get it twisted. I own my choices. I cannot hate on folks who don’t appreciate me when I’m guilty of overextending myself.

Buh-bye to that madness.

After a fun and restful summer in Portland, I’m sure I’ll return invigorated and better able to deliver on my promises.
Sometimes, you have to let go to move forward.

My essay was published in Invisible Illness (the largest Medium mental health publication!), I realized I need less “how-to” and more humanity, so I plan to do more creative writing this summer (after a few weeks of doing absolutely nothing!).

So, there you have it. That’s the spilled tea.

I’ll officially unplug on Friday, May 24th, and plan to return sometime in August or September.

On Repeat:

“What You Won’t Do for Love” by Bobby Caldwell

Some people go around the world for love
And they may never find what they dream of
What you won’t do, do for love
You tried everything
But you don’t give up
In my world only you
Make me do for love
What I would not do…
