We took the train from Portland, ME, to Boston yesterday. It was fun and very educational! I love seeing living history in old buildings and neighborhoods.
It was the first time I could smile and feel happy and hopeful since my grandma’s passing a couple of weeks ago.
She was 86.
How did a day trip to Boston help soothe my heart?
It was right on the heels of that moving speech from MVP Kamala Harris at the DNC.
I’m not a political person (at all!), but our MVP and the badass women who spoke at the DNC reminded me of my grandma and all the sacrifices she made for my family.
My grandma was a true badass BOSS trailblazer!
Besides my great-grandma (her mom), she was a role model and business owner example to me… Grandma sometimes had six or seven side hustles going at the same time!
She didn’t consider herself an entrepreneur or solopreneur because it wasn’t about titles or trying to impress anyone.
My grandma made her ideas come to life in ways that paid her money to help support her family. Period.
I am my grandma’s living history, and it’s because of her that I have the heart and tenacity to do all that I do, which often means having several gigs going simultaneously.
So yeah, I can take day trips to Boston with my boo, with a happy and hope-filled heart, because anything less wouldn’t honor my grandma and the impact she had on my life.
